How sewing changes lives

For more than a decade, we has been helping women exit the sex trade in Rwanda.

Pioneered by Alison Fenning, the Freedom project works in partnership with a local church on the ground in Rwanda.

Women who have, or are hoping to leave the sex trade are trained in all aspects of dressmaking and tailoring.

This provides the women with an alternate way of earning money and also a way to avoid the dangers and abuses they risk as sex workers.

The course is carried out over 12 months and, on completing the course, each woman is given a sewing machine of their own to enable them to start a new business.

We spoke to some of the women to find out how this project has changed their lives.
