Being Intentional - Street Life
We’ve had a great Easter season of outreach going out on the street praying, walking with God and meeting people. I feel that what we do is quite intentional in as much as the time is dedicated, we walk and pray which slows us down to begin to see and notice people and things. By slowing down we begin to hear God more clearly and therefore communicate more effectively. Something for us all of to reflect on as we go about our daily lives. Here’s a couple of stories to encourage you that people are interested in God and searching for something more.
As we were was sat waiting for someone to arrive, I kept popping in and out to see if they’re waiting outside They didn’t show up but a lady grabbed me and asked me a question she went on to tell me how sad she was at the loss of her husband recently. We then went on to have a really big conversation about God and the afterlife and spiritual things I asked if I could pray the with her and she accepted and was very thankful. Even now when I’m out I still look out for her hoping for a chance to see her again and have another chat. That was a God appointment that day.
Another we met a person who asked me if they could talk to me about God. They had overheard me chatting with someone else, and patiently sat waiting for me to be free, asking me questions about God and Church wanting to know how they could connect with God. I just asked a few more questions and what the backstory was - if we ask people questions about themselves and listen intently we can hear the activity of God already present in the life. It was great to be able to pray with them, give them a book and look out for them another time. God is moving in peoples hearts way before you and I meet them. It takes getting out there to hear this though. These are just two stories - we have many more of how God is already at work in peoples hearts and lives.
People are searching for peace and friendship, peace within friendship with others and God there is an epidemic of loneliness, isolation and overwhelm in our society. Some people have no one to talk, cry, laugh with but you and I can be those people. As the church we can be those people a place of vulnerability and connection. So keep praying for us as we go keep going out. One comment from those we have met is that “we share about Jesus in a very sociable way.” It’s good to be natural and personable.
Thanks for those of you, who support Street Life our evangelistic outreach.
