Burundi Church Farm
The Church in Burundi led by Pastor Mathieu and his team have been able to buy some land in Burundi. They have a vision to develop to create a small business of farming crops to sell. This will enable the local Church to support single parent families and children who have lost both parents and have no means of financial support.
Recently we have helped children in this community who have lost a parent or both parents to have supplies to go to a local school including books, pencils and other provisions needed for them to attend. I can remember sitting in a shack in Rwanda one time, a child who had been supported in education had been living in an extended family situation. They had taken him as he lost his parents, one was in prison and the other had run away. This child was not loved by the extended family but treated as a servant. I did not feel good as I looked around. I felt the pain and sadness of not being wanted from what I witnessed. I share this story so we can have a reality of what many children go through who have lost parents for whatever reason - which is why I love the farm. The potential provision it will provide is so vital for many children. School is a place where they can grow, be nurtured, have friends and find a future hope. This farm is an income stream for that hope to become a reality.
When the farm is in full flow and producing a good crop the Church can then provide for those around them. People from the Church and local community have got on board and helped to clear the ground, cultivate and plant and are keeping on top of the weeding and ongoing care over the crops. So far they have Egg plant in the ground and are expecting a harvest in four months.
It is wonderful that we have been able to support this community farm in getting off of the ground in one of the most poorest countries in the world. We hope to send some more support for ongoing needs such as fertiliser and more seed as and when needed.
Pray for this vital mission that God will grow the work of their hands as the Church practically help their community.
Thank you for your help in moving this mission forward.
